The Classic European Facial or a Spa Facial

The Classic European Facial, also commonly called a spa facial, is a quick, simple, and often very relaxing way to improve and maintain your skin’s overall appearance, especially if done on a regular basis. A typical facial involves thoroughly cleansing and exfoliating the skin, then massaging it to boost circulation and encourage lymphatic drainage. One or two masks will be applied, followed by toners and moisturizers appropriate for your skin type at the salon and spa.

There are various types of Classic European Facials, such as anti-aging, oxygen, collagen, deep cleansing, and other signature protocols which can be tailored to your skin’s needs. “Properly analyzing your skin type provides a custom treatment for each individual client,” says Aesthetician Jillian Wright, owner of Jillian Wright Clinical Skin Spa.

WHO IS IT FOR?

With such a variety of methods and potions available, Classic European Facials are customizable to accommodate almost every skin type. “People who have severe acne and are taking Accutane or have chronic rosacea should avoid facials and consult their dermatologist,” warns Wright. Also, pregnant women and people with any kind of heart condition should avoid microcurrent therapy, which is often included in a Classic European Facial, so be sure to let your cosmetic doctor or aesthetician know if you have these conditions. As always, clearly discuss any allergies or sensitivities you have, as well.

WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT FEEL LIKE?

Almost every Classic European Facial follows the same basic steps. First, you’ll have a quick consultation to discuss your skin concerns and your usual maintenance routine, then the aesthetician will cleanse your skin to analyze your skin type and devise a customized treatment. Generally, next comes steaming to help soften up any pore-clogging congestion, followed by exfoliation, extractions, massage, a mask, and finally, a cream application.

Besides the quick pinches from extractions, which involves using a small amount of pressure or a stainless steel extractor tool to remove trapped sebum and blackheads, you’re likely to drift off to dreamland throughout the treatment.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

60 to 90 minutes

ARE THERE IMMEDIATE SIDE EFFECTS?

Extractions may cause some redness or inflammation depending on skin sensitivity, but a trusted aesthetician will know how to minimize that.

WHAT ARE ANTICIPATED RESULTS?

You’ll definitely see a new glow post treatment. After receiving a Classic European Facial, your skin will immediately appear brighter, tighter, smoother, and more even in tone and texture.

RECOMMENDED COURSE FOR OPTIMAL RESULTS?

Most aestheticians suggest getting a Classic European Facial once a month, but that ideal can be hard to fit into a busy calendar. Don’t be discouraged. Quarterly treatments would also be beneficial. At the very least, sneak one in whenever you can etch out the time because it’s also a great way to de-stress and relax.
